Backup

A copy of computer data taken and stored elsewhere (preferably away from the primary source device) so that it may be used to restore the original in case of a data loss event. Data backup can be done from a computer or server onto a separate hard drive, disk, tape or cloud backup.

The verb form refers to the process of making the copy i.e., backing up data means making a copy of the data.
